Born in UK, Leeds College, London and Goldsmith's College, London. Now resides in Kent, UK -
"It seems to me that I have been preparing all my life to make photographs of the Cuban experience. I have the language. I know how to make pictures, and Cuba provides me with the voice. The very essence, the core of this work, lies in the loss that will inevitably occur when Fidel Castro dies. His dreams have become reality on this magical island, and at best the photographs oscillate between reality and mystery - in short, Cubana."

The dream and the support. i was in Havana when Fidel visited Mandela in South Africa. Live on TV it made my heart sing for Civil Rights.
When Fidel entered the main Parliament building the women chanting and singing my Heart was full with joy x wonder.

The experience of meeting Alberto Diaz Korda, March 1998, was profound. Our friendship lasted just over 4 years and after I curated the Savannah GA exhibit After that show he trusted me with the organisation of the London Festival. This I did with Nicky Akehurst whom I had been friends with for 20 years, it was she who had the connections with the Royal National Theatre.
The above Portrait was made on our first meeting at the Miramar Apartment, Havana. This was the set for the beginning of the Film The BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB. The image is to be the start of the Cuban section in the Portfolio Book.. Alberto was a dear sweet human being ..... whose love of Fidel was endless.
